In my run up to turning 30 in December I have been going through an especially reflective period. I know that 30 is by no means 'old' and you are 'only as young as you feel' etc but milestones are milestones for a reason. With each notch, we create moments of pressure (socially or internally), where we gauge how far we have come and how far we still have to go, in relation to our dreams and the ultimate vision we have for our lives.
Close friends will know that my life has been somewhat stop/start for a good number of years and I am still trying to create the life that I envisioned I would have at 30 (aren't we all?) but as I told someone recently, it's more a 'feeling' than a pre-constructed 'life'. A feeling of finally having a handle on things.
And while thinking of all of this I had a mini epiphany - if you want to be constantly growing as an individual, this feeling of 'having a handle on things' will never exist, that the predominant feeling will be 'discomfort' and little bit 'out of your depth'; it will mean that progress is being made, that you are pushing the upper limits of your potential. So the key is to let go of perfection in favour of progress (and if you know me, this is especially tough, I am all about perfect!)
So when I turn 30 years young I will make these promises to myself. To be fearless, to seek adventure, to live wholeheartedly and to always seek discomfort.
Ps. In terms of style, Anna Dello Russo is definitely a 50 year old woman to emulate! So fearless. And here is a list of few woman I admire.
